This plan has been put together carefully and is reviewed regularly, so that children, staff and parents feel as safe as they can, while making sure the children have as normal an experience in school as possible, which is important for everyone’s wellbeing. The Government have given guidelines however, they have made it clear that every school is different and will have a different approach. “Schools are not required to use this guide, and may choose to follow alternative approaches to preparing for wider opening, or to use some sections of this guidance alongside other approaches. We hope that some of these suggestions will be helpful to headteachers who are leading this important work, to support their own decision-making.” (Planning guide for Primary Schools 1st & 15th June 2020) The Government has also made it clear that ‘we know that unlike older children and adults, early years and primary aged children cannot be expected to remain 2 metres apart from each other and staff’ (Action for education and childcare settings to prepare for wider opening June 1st 2020).

The Prime Minster and Chief Scientists have said we need to make “small, tentative steps.” This means smaller teaching groups, staggered routines, increased use of outdoor environments, consistent hand and respiratory hygiene and regular cleaning are key to a successful plan.

September 2020

The Government announced on Friday 19th June that it would like all children to be back in school full time from September, which is exciting news for us all. We have been given no guidance about this yet; it should be with us in the few weeks. We are currently planning that the Autumn term will start as planned on Monday 7th September 2020 for Year 1 – Year 6 children. Nursery and Reception children will be given some transition time in school hopefully, from Thursday 3rd September. We will not be doing home visits for new Nursery and Reception children this year. We will update any information about September as soon as we can.

The Government has said that we can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must still:

  • Stay at home as much as possible
  • Work from home if you can
  • Limit contact with other people
  • Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
  • Wash your hands regularly

Self-isolate if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.

The main symptoms of coronavirus are now:

  • high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms.
